The Skatin’ Rebels have added goaltender Ben Giesbrecht to the roster for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.
Giesbrecht, from Vancouver, BC, most recently played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Olds Grizzlys. He played in 33 regular season games with a 3.79 goals-against average and a .890 save percentage. In seven playoff games last season, Giesbrecht had a 5.06 GAA and a .902 SV%. He is a hybrid-style goalie with good puck-handling capabilities.
“When I came to visit and tour the campus I really enjoyed the university and all it had to offer. I am extremely excited on joining the team, as I felt very welcomed the first day I got there,” Giesbrecht said. “Even though it is our first year (in ACHA DI) I believe we will be extremely competitive. The facilities are top notch and it’s even more impressive because the rink is brand new and shared with the NHL franchise.”
Giesbrecht plans on majoring in business management at UNLV. He’s most excited for playing in his first game at the collegiate level and having an impact on the team’s success this upcoming season.
“We want to build a culture that would easily be transferable to NCAA DI hockey and make it a quick transition when that time comes,” he said.
